Must-See Dubai Events
Dubai Racing Club and Meydan Grandstand
Completed in 2010, the Meydan Racecourse and Grandstand features seating for 80,000 spectators and the world’s first trackside five-star hotel. Guests to this unique accommodation will have the luxury of observing the race without any need to leave their room since all lodgings have unobstructed views of the track.
Apart from watching the Sport of Kings, visitors should be sure to take a stable tour. Whether they are horse racing enthusiasts, or looking to expand their knowledge of the sport, a guided tour offers a fun and educational experience. The day begins with a five-star breakfast at the Meydan hotel followed by a meeting with a horse trainer and his charge. Guests will learn just how much training is involved to craft a world-champion racehorse. In addition, guests will receive a behind-the-scenes look at the grandstand, the jockey room, and the parade ring.
The 2018-2019 racing season kicks off this November and ends with the Dubai World Cup held annually every March.
“La Perle” by Dragone
Created and produced by world-renown Franco Dragone, this spectacular show is like Cirque du Soleil on water. 2.7 million liters of water are used during each performance. The first of its kind, this aqua-theater was built specifically for this purpose and features 65 of the world’s best acrobatic artists. Guests of all ages will be on the edge of their seats. And speaking of seats: there’s no bad seat in the house since the theater was designed in such a way that every seat has a great view of the action. It’s not hard to see why Dubai’s first resident show has 450 performances each year!
Gaffal Dhow Boat Race
While the UAE is a diverse place with dozens of different nationalities, this annual boat race is something that is truly Emirati. For starters, every member of every crew must be an Emirati citizen. Further, the race covers 23 nautical miles ending at the iconic Burj al-Arab hotel – the very symbol of Dubai.
Lastly, the traditional dhow boat dates to ancient time when pearl diving was a common practice in the Emirates. Since its inception in 1991, this race aims to honor the tradition of those ancient divers, and the boats they sailed.
